The ubiquity of mass transit in urban areas has helped shape our understanding of cities—Public transportation is often the lifeblood of major metropolitan areas.
Critical decisions such as where to live or work may be based on proximity to transit nodes. Similarly, habits and tasks are influenced by access to public transportation. Urban Mapping developed Urbanware Mass Transit to focus on the end user, providing contextually relevant information.
In developing its schema, Urban Mapping consulted existing standards to ensure compatibility. Data architecture integrates with the Google Transit Feed Specification, allowing application developers to work seamlessly across multiple formats. Other formats including APTA's TPIC, TransXchange, NaPTAN and Transmodel are also considered.
