We’re thrilled to introduce our first reference application using our hosted mapping platform. Geo Fact Finder showcases a broad collection of data that Urban Mapping maintains in its data catalog. This site is intended to show what is possible using our API–the only heavy lifting involved was front-end development, primarily using Javascript.
The below screen shot shows off recent unemployment rates, shown in a thematic map at five percent intervals. Overlay with (say) political affiliation, educational performance, demographics, consumer expenditures, doom & gloom (tornadoes, hurricanes, coastal vulnerability to sea level rise), public transit, vacancy rate and much, much more…

We previously announced our relationship with CoStar, the leading provider of commercial real estate information services and we have several other customer implementations (and reference applications) to announce in the coming months. Until then, we’d love to hear any and all feedback.

UMI’s own Ian White will be crossing the pond to Berlin, October 27-30, for IIR’s LBS conference in Germany. Ian will participate on a panel discussion, Can You Find The Way? Where Next For Mapping?” We aren’t sure if IIR is going for “where” or “what,” but that’s what makes panel sessions interesting.
Urban Mapping has been doing a great deal of work behind the scenes, and we’re thrilled with some upcoming announcements about our mass transit initiative.
[Update: Umibot says "First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin!']

This is big news. Umibot had to go into a cooling facility as he (she?) overclocked just thinking about this…Previous self-initiated rumors are correct. The map, in fact, *is* back. The Panamap is back…very soon. Until then, watch for the signs.

Umibot’s been a proud servant to AT&T’s YellowPages.com for some time, but neighborhood search functionality is now front and center, so search by neighborhood to your heart’s delight!
